Robin Thicke is unapologetic about how rapey ‘Blurred Lines’ is, meanwhile the dude who parodied it issues a public apology for one word.
And that is just one reason why I love Weird Al.
Note how Weird Al doesn’t make songs mocking fat people anymore either. It’s almost like people are capable of learning and changing their behavior for the better.
I’m really glad he addressed his use of the word “spastic” in that song. It made me pretty uncomfortable.
I remember seeing something about this just the other day, and I found it interesting. Here in the US, the word spastic isn’t really seen as insulting at all. I had no idea it could even be such until not too long ago. Apparently it’s a major, bad insult in the UK though? I can see for sure how Weird Al would’ve had no idea about that. It goes to show, even though we share a language, culture too can change the meaning of words.
