Lament of the Mind

Why is sex such a taboo topic? I don’t understand why there’s an entire, HUGE aspect of everyone’s lives that we just fucking ignore and keep private unless we’re involved with it with someone else, and even then it’s like we have trouble talking.

There’s other weird shit like this too, but this one’s the fucking elephant in the room. Why do we avoid it? Why is talking about our bodies and what we do with them so bad? This is probably why so many fucking conservatives have issues with it, because they barely understand themselves, let alone what’s around them.

Sex education is iffy at best throughout most the first world, let alone outside it. I feel like this is one area where we’ve truly failed, straight-up and outright. And it leads to a lot of bigotry, confusion, and misunderstanding. Especially when you expand issues to LGBT rights, and gender issues? Everything gets totally lost in a storm of “I don’t know what the fuck’s going on so I’m going to hate all of it.” And it doesn’t have to be this way! We’ve got the internet at our fingertips, the greatest communication tool ever created. We have the means of speaking freely to audiences that any generation before us could’ve never dreamed of talking about. And yet we sit and we perpetuate it? Sure there’s the “porn side” of things, and that’s leaking out more and more, but even then, that seems like… like something you still strictly keep to yourself unless the people that know it are total strangers. And I don’t get it. I don’t get it at all.

And in all this, I’m not saying I’m immune. Hell I’m especially vulnerable to it, because I’m an anxious person as is, and people already don’t like to talk to me about things. Talking to me about something that everyone ELSE has trouble talking about? Not a fucking chance!

It’s time we did something about this. I’m not the one to start it…I don’t have the intestinal fortitude it takes to deal with some of the hate that’ll come of it. But someone should. It’s time we remove the taboos from society and be open and honest about anything we damn well please. Maybe if we do, the next generation after us won’t have to blindly feel their way in the dark through all the lies and bullshit to come to the truth of matters and accept themselves. Fuck knows it was hard enough for us to accept ourselves as it was. Some of us still haven’t.
