Lament of the Mind

Text

I feel like I want to take the chaos-theory crowd experiment that was Twitch Plays Pokemon a step further and actually apply chaos theory to it. Convert random noise from the cosmological background into inputs, and let the universe’s inputs play Pokemon and see what happens. It’d be far less focused - at least Twitch has a general idea of what they want to do, trolls aside - but it’d be a damn curious experiment. We’ve seen how focused, guided chaos can be harnessed and used to complete one hell of a social experiment; we should see how actual chaos holds up.

At the very least there will be a few less trolls.

That said, watching Twitch finish that game was a pure thrill. I’ve never been so happy to watch 80,000 random morons (myself included!) push buttons trying to get a game to do what it’s supposed to. I’m excited to see the next segment of it. This is probably the greatest crowd experiment ever performed. And seeing a pseudo-goofball-religion come from it, and so very many memes and beautiful artwork…all from a crowd of people playing an old gameboy game.

I’m honestly torn whether to be proud or to just laugh.
