Alright! So after several weeks of work trying to even make sense of how to do this voice, I’ve finally got something beaten down well enough that I’m willing to share with the world to get feedback for it.
This is close to what will likely be my audition for Jake English, for CoLab HQ’s Let’s Read Homestuck project. Quite frankly, I never thought I’d even try this voice when I started, let alone audition for it, but…here I am. This one was exciting, and was a challenge for me to work on, because accents don’t come easy to me, at all. I figure 90% of the work put into this was just getting an accent that worked with my voice and sounded natural. (Side story here - I actually recorded a couple versions of this without an accent at all, and my early listeners told me that it desperately needed one. This was what I ended up with after the work, and has been generally well-received.)
As with the Caliborn I did, this of course is not quite final-cut quality. I’ve finally figured out how to virtually eliminate background and environmental noise, but it still may be present in a couple spots. Also, I know at one point I actually bit my tongue while delivering a line - I don’t think it messed it up enough to be noticeable, but still something I’d do another take for before submitting. And I’m still not totally sold on the delivery, particularly the first segment - The part just before I start talking about what adventure is, I’ve done three different ways so far and I can’t settle on where exactly to put emphasis.
Anyway, check this out. I hope you guys like it! I’ll be doing a couple other things in the future after this is done - I’m working on a Karkat for fun, and there’s an audition open for a male!Vriska that I may just try out for too, so you guys can expect to hear those coming up as well.
