hypertigerxt:
is there a reason why people are so reluctant to use MOGAI (standing for “Marginalised Orientations, Gender Alignments, and Intersex”) instead of LGBT/LGBT+/etc.
I tried googling it, but I couldn’t find anything really on the topic, other than “it’s always been LGBT” which doesn’t feel like a very good answer, because “it’s always been that way” is kind of one of the things that the community is meant to try to fight against, right?
It feels like it would solve two problems that people seem to have with LGBT(etc), namely we could say once and for all that allies are not part of acronym because they aren’t marginalised; and also it would stop groups like same-sex romantic attracted asexuals, or pansexual aromantic people feeling excluded partially because the “A”s aren’t in the LGBT acronym.
But there might be something that I’m missing, so I’d really be willing to be told why :D
It just needs to gain popular traction. It’s particularly hard to replace an acronym once it’s been in use for 50+ years. I agree that it needs done though.
