I once saw a post that said ‘why would you be cis when you could be trans?’
People are born cis, just as people are born intersex, trans, and genderqueer. Identity is not optional.
People are born straight, just as people are born homosexual, asexual, bisexual, and pansexual. Orientation is not optional.
You cannot become an orientation or identity just to be cool.
Being cis or straight is not automatically evil. It’s what you do with the privilege these identities/orientations carry with them that defines whether you’re a jerk or not.
No orientation or identity is better or more right than any other.
While on much of the internet and in much of the world, being trans or genderqueer or having an orientation other than straight is mocked, dangerous, and even deadly, on tumblr these identities and orientations are put on a pedestal. But this reversed attitude is still harmful, toxic even! Suggesting these things are ~*choices*~ lends credence to the idea that people can be forced to change, and that’s an incredibly dangerous road to go down. Reversing which choice is the ‘better’ or ‘correct’ one doesn’t make it okay.
