These people are literally evil. Eliminating food stamps is possibly one of the most cruel things any elected official could do in such a frail economic climate. People will die if this happens, and it’s blood on their hands. I don’t give two shits if it adds something to the debt (~80B), you know what could make up that money? Cutting the military budget and ending wars of choice, closing tax loopholes for corporations, and stop subsidizing profitable businesses. Just because someone is poor (usually due to the fact that capitalism demands that there poor people to drive down the cost of labor), does not mean that they deserve to starve for it. And I couldn’t care less about “all the fraud” of the food stamp program because it’s virtually nonexistent and honestly, if my tax dollars keep even just one family from going hungry then I think it’s worth it even if someone else is taking advantage of it.
